Abstract
The palm sector is one of the most influential in the Colombian economy, the fruit of the oil palm is the main raw material in the industrial process of extraction of palm oil, that processes high quantities of raw material that in turn generate by-products. Such as mesocarp fiber, one of the main residues of the process, which for years has been ignored by the industry, the fiber represents logistical costs for its final disposal and negatively affecting the environment. However, the research carried out by Phina Biosoluciones S. A. S. and Agroince Ltda., a process for separating the granular fraction of the mesocarp fiber called NutPalm they could create and patent a new process. From the results obtained, it was validated that the technology adds value, transforming up to 60% the mass flow of the fiber available in the field into raw material for animal feed, it became a new source of income for palm extraction plants of oil and an alternative to reduce the environmental impact on the plantation ecosystem. In this sense, the present investigation was carried out in order to demonstrate that the granular fraction from the pressed mesocarp fiber of the oil palm can be used in animal feed, obtaining competitive results.
