Work at the Centre d'appui technique a l'heveaculture in Gabon on the identification of the causal agent, assessment of disease severity and disease control tests, is outlined. Implications of antagonism between soil microorganisms for disease control are considered. Cultural and chemical methods of control and new lines of research are discussed.
