| dc.description | Over the last few years, canola or oilseed rape has become one of the main areas of production in Canada. Its success is attributed to strong world demand for consumable oils and growing demand for high quality oilseeds, primarily in the EU, USA, Mexico and China. Between 1993/94 alone, production increased by 44% to reach 7.4 Mt, covering a surface area of 5.82 Mha. The western provinces, particularly Saskatchewan and Alberta, produced the greatest quantities. The outlook is for a continued increase in canola production as well as research. Producers will continue to modify their production techniques in order to improve quality and maximize yields. | |
