Descripción
Progress in work on the production of hybrid varieties of swede rape in France is outlined, with information on the types of male sterility studied (nuclear and cytoplasmic) and the types of material so far produced, particularly the type of composite hybrid originating from association of a male-sterile hybrid with several pollinator lines. Synergy, the first released winter hybrid of this composite type, was added to the official register in 1994. Details are given of its yield and nitrogen utilization characteristics. Prospects for future developments are examined.
