Descripción
Leafeating insects are the most damaging oil palm pests in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Parasitoid Hymenoptera, particularly Chalcididae and Ichneumonidae, and some tachinid Diptera play a very important role in regulating pest population levels. In some cases, it has proved necessary to increase existing parasitoid populations with introductions. Indigenous parasitoid activity can be stimulated by facilitating the growth of the various plants on which they feed. Many predators, particularly Hemiptera and Formicidae, also play a substantial role.
