Oil palm plantation in Indonesia distributed in 16 provinces which covers about 1.8 million he and located on highly variable climatic and oil conditions. Based on the climatic conditions, oil palm is cultivated in fice climatic zones, i.e. extremely wet, wet, slightly wet, slightly dry and dry, respectively. Specific agronomic management should be adapted to each climatic zone, paticularly slightly dry climatic zone. soil physical and chemical conditions should also be considered in managing oil palm agronomy especially in defining the kind and dosage of fertilizer, the application system and its frequency. Thereforem five soil fertility status, i.e. high, slightly high, moderate, slightly low nad low (poor), are proposed. Each status requires specific soil agronomic practices. The expansion of oil palm area in the future might create new problems on land conditions, particularly selecting the mos appropriate management practice to be implemented.
