Resumen

Descripción

Oil palm industry has been expanding considerably. There have been misinformation about the nature of oil palm industries being considered extremely productive by one side while the other side consider it is not sustainable, even damaging. With the formation of RSPO the differential view may be discussed and solved for the benefit of mankind. Weeds are found causing reduction of oil palm yield, however through an approach of Integrated Weed Management as part of Integrated Pest Management, weed management programs may be integrated into activities of Crop Management to support high production of oil palm plantation. Woody weeds, shrubs, climbers, big grasses during land clearing/ preparation should be eradicated or controlled to minimize their populations. It is advisable to develop weed map, to control excessive weeds accordingly and preserve soft weeds and weeds, avoid using single herbicide for a long time and apply herbicides in sequential pattern or tank mixed to minimize the development of herbicide resistance and weed shift toward difficult-to control weeds. use herbicides that are considered effective in accordance with International Code of Conduct on the Distribution amd Use of Pesticides. (Revised version) Adopted by the Hundred and Twenty-third Session of the FAO Council in November 2002.
