A brief account is given of French breeding work with linseed to produce varieties with cold resistance suitable for sowing in September in regions with mild winters. The account is presented under these headings: history of the programme; production of line MAG46d, a candidate for addition to the official list; prospects (improvement of cold resistance and winter hardiness; and improvement of the gene pool of winter linseed types); and conclusion.
