Descripción
The development and application of biotechnology in the developed world are briefly described, and the need to extend the application of biotechnology to crops of importance to developing countries is highlighted. The conditions which will allow biotechnologies to be transferred to developing countries are listed. These can be met by: promoting the exchange of biotechnological information; supporting national programme infrastructures; and promoting research and technology transfer. The role of FAOin these steps is central to the discussion.
