| dc.description | Oil palm has continued to play a major role in the Malaysian economy and has experienced increased land, labour and other inputs costs. If the industry wishes to remain competitive in the global market, efforts to reduce the increasing cost will become the main agenda in future. The national oil yield average remains low at around 3.5 mt per hectare over the last 10 years (Jalani et al., 2002). This reflects low productivity from unit land area, labour, mechanisation and other agronomic and management input. This leads to high cost of production and uncompetitiveness in facing price fluctuation as well as to compete with other oils and fats in the global market. The industry needs to look forward and should have realistic and innovative action plans to increase the national oil yield average. | |
