Descripción
The use of robust plastic pot trays instead of small polybags for raising oil palm seedlings in the pre-nursery at Lyman Agro, Indonesia, is described. The advantages of pot trays include the fact that they can be recycled, they use less soil and the seedlings are easy to handle and maintain. Pot trays allow pre-nursery seedlings to be raised away from a new estate. Seedlings are ready for transfer to large polybags in 3 months (3-leaf stage) with one worker transferring 1000 plants per day. The performance of the pot tray seedlings after field planting is as good as those raised in pre-nursery polybags.
