Abstract
The evolution of pest management and an adequate knowledge of insect pests in oil palm plantations were the basis for changing and improving the existing concepts in order to solve different types of infestations. The article underlines the importance of integrated pest management on the basis of the following fundamental areas: l] Accurate knowledge and inspection of sash pest (census], (2] precise patterns of intervention decisions (critical levels], (3] different types of control (biological, chemical], (4) prevention by sowing useful nectarous plants (plants growing in sown fields), and (5] new overall plantation upkeep standards.
