| dc.description | In his speech at the installation of the XXVII National Palm Growers Convention, doctor César de Hart Vengoechea, president of the Fedepalma Board of Directors praised the growth of the palm sector in the past five years. ?At the end of the decade of the 80's, at a time when the oil palm faced the double challenge of the appearance of surpluses and of the economic opening, a businessman launched a deadly comment : "Oil Palm in Colombia is a fake". ! How things change! At the time, in a closed market, it was an obvious assumption that Tumaco was located in Malaysia. Life has surprises". Nevertheless, oil palm has survived through the cooperation of the trade union and the commercial action, turning threats into opportunities, since, from exporting 7,000 tons of oil in 1992, it has risen to a projected 93,000 tons for 1999. Through the joint work, productivity and extraction were increased and costs were reduced. That is why it is so important that the palm growers support the works which are being carried out in research and technological development, through Cenipalma. Finally, he emphasized the attention that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Planning Department have manifested in giving agriculture the attention it deserves. | dc.description | En su discurso de instalación del XXVII Congreso Nacional de Cultivadores de Palma, el Dr. César de Hart Vengoechea, presidente de la Junta Directiva de Fedepalma, exaltó el crecimiento del sector palmero en los últimos 5 años. ?A finales de la década de los 80, en momentos en que la palma de aceite enfrentaba el doble reto de la aparición de excedentes y de la apertura, algún empresario lanzó una expresión lapidaria: ?Oil Palm in Colombia is a fake? (la palma de aceite en Colombia es una farsa). ¡Cómo cambian las cosas! En ese entonces, en un mercado cerrado, era un axioma que Tumaco quedaba en Malasia. Sorpresa tiene la vida. Sin embargo, la palma de aceite ha sobrevivido mediante el concurso de la acción gremial y empresarial, convirtiendo amenazas en oportunidades pues de exportar 7.000 toneladas de aceite en 1992 se pasó a una proyección de 93.000 toneladas en 1999. Mediante el trabajo conjunto se aumentó la productividad y la extradición y se disminuyeron costos, por eso, es tan importante que los palmicultores apoyen los trabajos que en investigación y desarrollo tecnológico se vienen adelantando a través de Cenipalma. Finalmente, resaltó la atención que el Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural y el Departamento de Planeación Nacional han manifestado en dar al agro la atención que se merece.
