Abstract
The current oil palm planting material is largely dominated by Deli x AVROS, Deli x Yangambi, Deli x Ekona, Deli x La Me and Deli x URT (Chemara). New types of planting materials are being developed using the extensive oil palm Germoplasm acquired by Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) over the past twenty five years. These materials have been screened for oil yield, kernel content, height, harvest index, fatty acid composition, carotene, and Vitamin E. The elite palms from these collections have been used to develop new planting materials for dwarfness (PS1), high unsaturated oil (PS2), high kernel content (PS3). In future, planting materials with high carotene (PS4) and vitamin E (PS5) will be developed.
