Abstract
This paper presents the results of two plantings, one that belongs to the year 1991 with Coari materials x La me and Coari x Yangambi, in semi-commercial plantings. Production records are kept per palm during more than 4 years of harvest. This plantation has had yields of over 30 tons per hectare in average during the last 4 years. An experiment was conducted for the 1998 planting in which 5 crossings of different origins were tested. A statistical device was used for these plantings and significant differences were observed in terms of the percentage of oil per bunch in each crossing, fluctuating between 16.8% and 24.5%. Moreover, statistical differences were found with respect to FFB yield. Through these tests we have been able to determine that some pollens present crossings with a very good combination with the oleiferas mothers, and other pollens have been discarded given they present problems in F1 fruit sets. We have implemented new experiments with offspring tests so as to continue assessing and determining the best possible combinations; this would enable us to have more promising materials. These materials have been tested in areas with spear rot foci and in areas with the so called bud rot complex in the Colombian Llanos Orientales and they have shown a high tolerance to this problem.
