Abstract
Utilization of existing energy resources is indispensable not only for large industrial processes but also for small production plant and in particular, oil palm mills where the balance between heat and power are required for production process which are precondition for a "combined heat and power (CHP) scheme. “Or commonly referred to as C0-Generation System (Cogen). With the event of the Fifth fuel policy and after the UNDP / GEF with the small renewable energy power programme (SREP) in place; the small RE Biomass Power Generation Plant (Biogen) Project emerged. SREP's primary focus will be to facilitate the expeditious implementation of grid-connected renewable energy resource based small power plants up to 10 Mwe. The establishment, operation and management of the small RE power generation plant is only but an extension to the planters' activity with biomass resources and the engineering is provided from locally grown technology. In this paper we wish to present and share with you, how a successfully implemented and commercially operated 14 MW Waste to Energy Biogen plant, installed in Sabah, Malaysia has operated continuously since 17th February 2005 and has been rated by Cogen 3 as the World First! Biogen Plant with the highest cogeneration efficiency from palm oil residues. Es indispensable el uso de las fuentes de energía existentes, no solo para los grandes procesos industriales sino también para pequeñas plantas de producción, en especial, para las plantas de beneficio en las que se requiere el balance entre calor y energía para los procesos de producción, los cuales se convierten en una condición previa para un "esquema combinado de calor y energía". También se le conoce como sistema de cogeneración (Cogen). El pequeño Proyecto de Planta de Generación de Energía (Biogén), a partir de la biomasa, surgió a raíz de la adopción de la Quinta política de combustible y del programa a pequeña escala de energía renovable (SREP, por su sigla en inglés) del PNUD/GEF (Fondo de Energía Global). El primer enfoque de SREP es el de facilitar la adopción rápida de pequeñas plantas de energía, a partir de fuentes renovables hasta de 10 Mwe, todas ellas conectadas a la red. La instalación, operación y manejo de las pequeñas plantas de generación de energía es solo una extensión de la actividad del productor con los recursos de la biomasa y la ingeniería proviene de la tecnología local. El objetivo de este trabajo es el de presentar y compartir la experiencia de una planta Biogén exitosa de 14 Mw, que trabaja con desechos y produce energía, instalada en Sabah (Malasia). La planta ha operado de manera continua desde el 17 de febrero de 2005 y ha sido calificada por Cogen 3, como la primera planta Biogén en el mundo, con la eficiencia más alta en cogeneración, a partir de los residuos de la palma de aceite.
