Abstract
The changes in the US laws regarding biodiesel and renewable diesel point to a larger market for products derived from vegetable and animal materials than expected. Integrated processing facilities yield the higher returns and potentials for biorefineries allow owners and operators to enjoy returns on capital employed in excess of 15 percent in long term investments. Presentation covers technologies currently used, new technologies and plant operational costs. Capital costs are examined with an eye towards higher volumes in lower cost plants. Total market penetration for biodiesel and renewable diesel are discussed with final section on purity and quality controls. Los cambios en la regulación de Estados Unidos con relación al biodiesel y al diesel renovable apuntan a un mercado mucho más grande que el esperado para los productos derivados de materiales vegetales y animales. Las instalaciones integradas de procesamiento presentan las mayores utilidades y el gran potencial de las biorefinerías le permite a los dueños y a los operadores disfrutar de un retorno del capital invertido de más de 15 por ciento con inversiones a largo plazo. Este documento aborda las tecnologías empleadas existentes, las nuevas tecnologías y los costos de operación de la planta. Analiza los costos de capital con una mirada hacia mayores volúmenes en plantas de bajo costo.
