Abstract
The main goal of this paper is showing the results of a time and motion study carried out in an oil palm plantation in Colombia. The objective of the study was to compare two methods of harvesting oil palms. In the first method one worker carried out every process of the harvest. In the second method two workers harvested (one of them cut bunches and the other one picked bunches and loose fruits up). The results showed that the cost per ton of bunches harvested was 17 per cent lower when the harvest was carried out by two workers, which is equivalent to $4.974 Colombian pesos (2.077 Colombian pesos /1 USD) El objetivo principal de este artículo es mostrar los resultados de un estudio de tiempos y movimientos realizado en una plantación de palma de aceite en Colombia.
