Abstract
Since 2003, Fedepalma along with the firm Duarte Guterman and Cia. Ltd., have been updating the production costs of palm oil. This paper presents the update on the production costs in 2006 and reminds the purpose of the study, the sample selection, the methodology used during the past four years, the disaggregated cost structure, the evolution of costs and the competitiveness analysis of the sector compared with exports and imports, among other topics. It concludes that the average production costs decreased 3 percent in constant pesos between 2003 and 2006. However, this profit disappears when the costs are expressed in dollars, due to the appreciation of the peso Desde el año 2003 Fedepalma viene realizando, junto con la firma Duarte Guterman y Cía.
