Abstract
The study was carry out in Hacienda "La Cabaña" (Cumaral, Meta), with the objective of compare the physiological characteristics of African and American oil palms parents and its interspecific hybrids. A complete randomized blocks design was utilized, with three repetitions and 12 plants for replication. Photosynthesis, intercellular CO2 concentration, estomatal density and content of chlorophyll of the leaves, plant height, diameter of the trunk, dry weight of leaf and bunch, leaf area, and specific leaf area determinations were made. Photosynthesis daily curves showed that hybrids holds the maximum photosynthetic rate more time, has higher light saturation point of photosynthesis, indicating higher CO2 fixation capacity than African oil palm. The hybrids showed greater estomatal density that African and American oil palm. The genotypes differed in leaf area, leaf dry weight, diameter of the trunk dry weight bunch, and yield The individual photosynthetic rates was correlated positively with the yield of each material.
