Abstract
The area under oil palm cultivation in Indonesia has been steadily increasing; therefore, the demand for good quality seeds has significantly increased. To avoid the shortages and uncertainty that this generates, the country has launched a series of strategies including the expansion and enrichment of Germoplasm by increasing the number of seed producers. However, much remains to be done in this regard. This paper examines the current state of the Indonesian seed industry, and suggests undertaking additional activities which will help small producers to access this vital input, without compromising the quality of their production.
