| dc.description | Although Indonesia was not the place of origin of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq), the world?s most important oilseed, it has played an important role from the beginning of modern palm oil industry. Its first sustainable oil palm plantation was established in 1911, after the start of the research and development process in the early 1900's, to become the largest producer of palm oil today. For sixteen decades Indonesia?s palm oil industry has contributed to the supply of edible oil for food and industrial uses, both for the domestic and global markets. The long journey of the palm oil industry in this country reflects the sustainability of the industry in terms of profitability, human resources and the planet. But the journey of the palm oil industry in Indonesia continues and is becoming increasingly viable due to several factors: government policies, oil demand in the domestic market, availability of land and labor, as well as technology, and certainly the industry?s concern for the environment. This paper focuses on the journey of the palm oil industry in Indonesia, its current state and projection into the future. | en-US |
| dc.description | Aunque Indonesia no fue el lugar de origen de la planta oleaginosa más importante del mundo, la palma de aceite (Elaeis guineensis Jacq), Indonesia ha jugado un papel importante desde el inicio de la industria moderna del aceite de palma: su primer cultivo sostenible de palma de aceite se estableció en 1911, luego de que se iniciara el proceso de investigación y desarrollo a comienzos de la década de 1900, hasta convertirse en el mayor productor de aceite de palma en la actualidad. Durante dieciséis décadas la industria indonesia de aceite de palma ha contribuido al suministro de aceite comestible para alimentos y usos técnicos, tanto para el mercado doméstico como el global. El largo recorrido de la industria del aceite de palma de este país refleja la sostenibilidad de la industria en términos de rentabilidad, de recursos humanos y del planeta. Pero la travesía del aceite de palma en Indonesia continúa, y se hace cada día más viable gracias a varios factores: las políticas estatales, la demanda de combustible en el mercado doméstico, la disponibilidad de tierras y mano de obra, así como también de tecnologías, y seguramente la compatibilidad de la industria con las preocupaciones ambientales. Este trabajo profundizará sobre la travesía de la industria de aceite de palma de Indonesia, el estado actual de la industria y su proyección hacia el futuro. | es-ES |
