| dc.description | Many of the options open for biomass (including biomass from oil palm) are to producing energy. In the future the trend will be the biorefinery to treat it, which also deals with waste that could become energy. But it also covers a wider range of liquid biofuels, chemical platforms, etc., and beyond. This article explains the process by which the biorefinery of lignocellulose (from biomass) is subjected to a pretreatment to separate its three components (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) in order to add value to them. However, there are still some challenges to be overcome before the biorefinery can reach an industrial scale and is commercialized.
