Abstract
The implementation of complementary conservation strategies is today a global necessity to stop climate change impacts as well as biodiversity loss. Doing it simultaneously in an agro-industrial project requires a measurable and quantifiable approach. Poligrow Colombia S. A. S., has carried out fauna and flora studies during the last 12 years in its oil palm project in Mapiripán, Meta. Additionally, last year an innovative biodiversity gain project has been proposed and is being implemented: a Habitat Bank. Throughout this project, the proposed conservation objectives will be achieved and monitored annually, offering scientific evidence to demonstrate progress in preservation and restoration of gallery forests and morichales, conservation of threatened fauna subject to hunting and illegal traffic and finally in the propagation of epiphytes. With the implementation of the project, it is expected the company will achieve a sustainable production accompanied by real biodiversity gain.
