Abstract
The purpose of the following article is to present the evolution of the palm growing association in Colombia, as the experience of an organization which has reached a degree of maturity which allows in to look to the future with optimism. In the first place, the report is specifically centered on the oil palm its origins, its characteristics and the use of its products; next, the historic-economic frame within which palm growing appeared in Colombia and the creation of the association took impulse is described briefly. In the second part of the text, the different evolutionary stages of the National Federation of Oil Palm Growers (Federation Nacional de Cultivadores de Palma de Aceite - Fedepalma) are pointed out, from its foundation until today, emphasizing the opportunities and challenges set forth, as well as the entities born from the necessity of specializing and strengthening the palm growing sector. Finally, some reflections on the future are proposed, starting from the acknowledgment of the key success factorsEste artículo tiene como objeto presentar la evolución del gremio palmicultor en Colombia, como experiencia de una organización que ha alcanzado madurez y estabilidad financiera que le permite mirar al futuro con optimismo. En primer lugar, el artículo se centra específicamente en la palma de aceite, sus orígenes, sus características y el uso de sus productos; a continuación, se reseña el marco histórico-económico dentro del cual surgió la palmicultura en Colombia y se impulsó la creación del gremio. EN la segunda parte se exponen las distintas etapas que ha vivido la Federación Nacional de Cultivadores de Palma de Aceite, Fedepalma, desde su fundación hasta hoy, destacándose las oportunidades y desafíos planteados, así como las entidades nacidas de la necesidad de especializar y fortalecer al sector palmicultor. Finalmente se plantean unas reflexiones sobre el futuro, a partir del reconocimiento de los factores claves de éxito
