The biotechnology of oils and fats.
Abstract
The applicatins of biotechnology to the oils and fats industry are reviewed. The uses of isolated enzyme sustems to achieve molecular rearrangements of acyl lipids are briefly discussed. The various constraints of growing microorganisms, animal cells and plant cells are elaborated and recent developments in the large-scale propagation of selected oil palm by tissue culture are given in some detail. It is concluded that the next 10-15 year will se many new opportunities for the applications of biotechnology in the various industries based on oils and fats production.
