dc.descriptionOil palm development in Indonesia is very vast during the last ten years, and the demand of seeds is increasing due to the recent increse in investment, especially from private and small holders. It is estimated that additional new planting area for the next five years is between 150.000 ha and 200.000 ha per year, whereas replanting area is estimated 20.000 ha per year. The seed requirement per year is estimated around 40 to 50 million. The total seeds produced by the three local seed producers in the country are 60 million seeds which ae enough to fulfill the demand, so that the import of seeds is deemed unnecessary.
