Abstract
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system which sotres, analyses, and displays both spatial and non-spatial data. There are three fundamental GIS applications: database management, computer cartography and spatial analysis. The unique capability of GIS lies in its spatial analysis though data integration. This paper describes five applications of a GIS used by the R and D at oil palm plantations of PT Salim Indoplantation in riau, i.e. Resources inventory, Estate performance monitoring/Map production, analysis of FFB yield, Monitoring of pest attack, and Modeling of flood hazard. The use of GIS has assisted the management in solving the above routine and specifica tasks effectively and efficiently.
