dc.description | Polyploidity and a very high level of repetitivity make genome sequencing and analysis of higher plants far more complex than for similarly sized mammalian genomes. Application of low-cost, high-speed, DNA sequencing technologies coupled with novel bioinformatics approaches based upon the SynaBASE platform assist in rapid characterization of plant transcriptomes and genomes. Potential benefits of large scale sequencing include engineering plants which exhibit traits resulting in increased yield and/or enhanced resistance to adverse environmental conditions and pests. | |
