Abstract
The characteristics of lethal yellowing disease of coconuts, which is linked to phytoplasmalike organisms, its unpredictable movement, and control strategies, are discussed. Research on breeding tolerant cultivars or hybrids is reported. Very few cultivars are truly tolerant. Several hybrids look promising, but the most tolerant material will have to be tested on a larger scale.
