In 1995 (as in 1994) the European trituration and refinery industry for oilseed crops and vegetable oils had a satisfactory level of supply available and a sustained demand for products from China and South-East Asia. European oilseed production reached almost 12.5 Mt, imports of soyabeans from the USA, Argentina and Brazil reached 17 Mt, and imports of rapeseed from Canada increased to 1139 t. This resulted in a 12 increase in trituration in comparison with 1994, to reach 27 Mt. Projected availability of supply, the structure of the industry, and the effects of various EU regulations on the future of the industry are examined.
