Building by acting : a method of adapting sunflower cultivation to Morocco.
Abstract
The article discusses a three-year programme in Morocco to develop sunflower production, the approach being one of adapting techniques developed elsewhere (especially in France) rather than "reinventing" them. It is backed up by government price guarantees and consists principally of combining experimentation with actual cultivation rather than spending several years in prior research. Provision is also being made for providing continued advice to producers, under the banner of knowledge transfer from French technicians to the latter. It is argued that this method is a favourable route towards the development of a proper sunflower sector in Morocco.
