Abstract
Fresh H. brasiliensis seeds (collected from the Kanyakumari region of Tamil Nadu) were stored under ambient conditions in water or in air for 5, 10, 15 or 20 days. For each storage duration, water storage resulted in higher percentage germination than air storage (87.50 vs. 63.63% with 5 days' storage; 45.00 vs. 0% with 20 days' storage). Water storage was also superior to air storage in terms of seed moisture content and all seedling growth attributes except for number of lateral roots. 15 ref.
