Varietal improvement of Coffea canephora. II. Breeding programmes and their results.
Abstract
A historical review of Coffea canephora breeding programmes worldwide reveals that breeding centres have moved from Indonesia to Central Africa, then from Central Africa to the MadagascarCentral African RepublicCote d'Ivoire group. Particular emphasis is placed on the reciprocal recurrent selection programme in Cote d'Ivoire, which uses heterosis expressed in crosses between Guinean and Congolese groups. 27 ref.
