Abstract
Oil extraction operations in Africa are handicapped by lowtechnology smallscale extraction and poor quality products from industrial copra crushing. Hot oil immersion drying of fresh kernels is a worthwhile alternative. The results of research carried out on this extraction technique are described including an understanding of the mechanisms involved, optimization of the process, a socioeconomic survey for adaptation of the process in line with user requirements, and the design of a pilotunit for smallholder use. The prospects for development of the process on different application scales are reviewed. Incluye 8 referencias bibliográficas.
