Auchenorrhyncha (Homoptera), suspected vectors of coconut lethal yellowing disease in Ghana.
Abstract
Trapping of Homoptera, presumed to be vectors of coconut lethal yellowing, revealed the existence of 2 dominant insect species in infected coconut plantations: Myndus adiopodoumeensis [M. adiopodoumensis] (Cixiidae), especially in the Central regionand Nzinga palmivora (Typhlocybinae), particularly in the Western region. The results of disease transmission trials in which large numbers of M. adiopodoumeensis were released into large cages containing coconut palms close to flowering are not yet very conclusive. The biology and host plants of M. adiopodoumeensis are being studied.
