Rubber growing in Guatemala.
Abstract
With over 36 000 ha of Hevea plantations, Guatemala now produces 30 000 t of rubber. The grower organization Gremial de Huleros is planning to develop rubber growing in the Pacific zone, particularly in the northeast, where extensive areas of suitable land are available. Microcyclus ulei and erosion are the main problems that have to be solved. Three companies process the latex produced and around 20 the dry rubber, most of which is sold on the Latin American market.
