Oil palm root study using the mini-rhizotron technique.
Abstract
The mini-rhizotron technique was used to study oil palm root turnover and ongevity. Preliminary data collected over a three-month observation period was not sufficient to determine oil palm root longevity since the total root length was not constant. Root length replacemnte was high in tertiary roots about 11 per cent more than secondary roots. Root observation has to be done over a long extened period in order to take account of the changing season that can affect root turnove and longevity. Further work is needed to determine the optima number of observation tuves to represent the soil bulk proliferated by oil palm roots. Incluye 12 referencias bibliográficas.
