Abstract
A test was conducted to evaluate the effect of fractionation of compound fertilizer 13- 6-23-4-3 on production, concentration of elements in leaves-soils, and the cost of application/relative production increase ratio. Treatments consisted of fractionating the same dose in 2, 3, 4 and 5 applications/year; 255 ha of Papua material planted in 1987 were treated. It was observed that the greatest relative gain in production from 2003 to 2005 was obtained when the fertilizer dose was applied between 3 and 5, getting responses in the lots with the lowest production. Because of financial feasibility, a fractionation of 3 applications of compound fertilizer/year suffices. The concentration of leaf N responded to the 5 doses of fertilizer/year application; in the leaves a proper balance between the bases was correlated significantly with the response to the fractionation of the fertilizer dose. According to the cost/benefit ration, the application of compound fertilizer in three doses is nutritionally and productively feasible.
