Abstract
Obtaining alkyd esters through vegetable oil transterification requires the use of chemical catalysts that require strong operating conditions, have a high corrosion power and present difficulties in the recovery of glycerol and removal of the catalyst. Moreover, lipases can also be used as biocatalysts, they work in soft conditions and in solvent - free media, they are biodegradable and their reutilization is possible if immobilized. This work aimed at obtaining ethyl esters from palm oil, using as catalyst immobilized lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosus. The first phase dealt with the determination of the average molecular weight of a triacylglycerol in oil and with the evaluation of internal and external diffusion effects in the system.
