Abstract
The current situation of Palm oil in Brazil is very promising, not only because of the potential size of the planting area and the existence of huge national and international market, but especially because of the social objectives it accomplishes for the economy and the development of the Brazilian people. We should also keep in mind that the development of an environmentally-balanced agricultural economy will be an important aid for the recovery of the Amazon rainforest. Currently in Brazil there are specific policies targeted at the sector, which together with environmental policies will result in sustainable development of the crop as well as the industrialization of production of oil and oleo-chemical products (biodiesel).
