Abstract
The high-oleic oil palm is an O x G hybrid, whose traits, especially tolerance to diseases like bud rot, has become an alternative in the oil palm growing regions where the problem exists. In addition, its lowest growth rate extends the life of the crop, because it can be harvested for more years than the African palm. Its oil has properties that make it attractive for the food industry, as it contains more triglycerides with oleic acid and less palmitic acid than the traditional one; therefore, it is more unsaturated. This article comes as a result of the work done by the Health and Nutrition Project of Fedepalma and Cenipalma.
